Employer FAQs about HIT Preview Day

What is the purpose of HIT Preview Day?

The purpose of HIT Preview Day is two-fold:

  1. Provide employer partners with a streamlined process to speak with current BFIT students about internship opportunities.
  2. Provide host employers with the chance to meet and interview HIT seniors and for both to rank their top intern/internship selections.

Why should my organization participate?

HIT Preview Day allows you to promote your organization and opportunities exclusively to BFIT students. In addition, you will:

  • Have priority access to resumes of highly motivated, diverse, well-prepared Health IT students
  • Have the opportunity to interview and rank your intern candidate preferences
  • Help build a pipeline of students ready to start a Health IT career in Massachusetts—fully 56% of BFIT students are Boston residents and 97% are Massachusetts residents

What does my organization need to do to prepare for HIT Preview Day?

  • Commit to hosting 1 (or more) BFIT interns from January 2021 – April 2021 (160 hours) and/or to hosting a BFIT student as a paid summer intern (part time or full time)
  • Attend the HIT Interview Preview Day (Date/time TBA).
  • If available, email a job description and/or scope of work for your internship to Serge Andre (careers@bfit.edu).

Why does my organization need to commit to hosting an intern?

Being a host site for a BFIT intern means that you are agreeing to find a placement for a student. We ask sites to commit for the following reasons:

  • The academic internship is a graduation requirement. Your assurance that you will find a placement for your BFIT intern ensures that every student has a placement and the time to complete the required 160 hours of work.
  • We want to be as equitable as we can in providing employers access to every candidate. Confirmation of the number of host sites and available placements helps ensure we can match each site with a student who best suits their needs.

What if my organization may not have funding to pay an intern?

You can still participate! Having a paid internship is always our preference as it helps alleviate financial stress for the student and adds a level of professionalism to the role. However, because students receive academic credit for their internship and their schedules are designed for them to attend an on-site internship two days a week, payment is not mandatory. The most important criteria is that students receive a hands-on, substantial, professional experience in the field.

Please note: Due to the financial constraints many of our students face, we ask that companies provide compensation for summer internships.
