Program Requirements

BFIT’s Health Information Technology (HIT) bachelor’s degree program requires students in their last semester to complete a capstone project and an internship in a healthcare organization. BFIT is committed to ensuring that each internship in this program provides a valuable experience for both students and employers.

HIT internships must:

  • Be credit-based, 160-hour internships structured with hands-on intern project(s) designed to support the healthcare organization.
  • Give students opportunity to gain practical work experience in the health IT field and have their performance evaluated by their assigned supervisor.
  • Provide host organizations with access to highly motivated and well-prepared students who can meet current staffing needs, and help shape a pipeline of future health IT employees.
