    Program Description

    Through this partnership program, members of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local 7 can now apply both field experience and course work toward the completion of an Associate of Science in Construction Management at Franklin Cummings Tech. Participants will receive a minimum of 23 college credits toward the degree—more than 30% of the credits required—and may be eligible for additional credits depending on their training pathways.

    This is an incredible opportunity to further your career while receiving credit for the training you’ve already completed. Participants can complete the remaining degree requirements over a two-year period at a deeply discounted tuition rate, taking as little as one course at a time. Courses will be offered online.

    This partnership will allow members to further hone their craft, to gain a unique and more robust understanding of green building practices, building information modeling, scheduling, and estimating., and earn college credentials that will advance career opportunities.

    Fully 34% of jobs in the construction sector now require post-secondary education and training, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Our certificates and Construction Management Associate Degree program will position you to grow and prosper in this exciting field.

    Cost and Financial Aid

    Ironworkers Local 7 members will receive a significant tuition discount, bringing the rate to $450 per credit  for those who enroll.

    Financial aid is available for this program. All applicants will be assessed for financial aid eligibility once they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

    Eligibility

    This program is open to Ironworkers Local 7 members. Applicants must have completed at least one year of apprenticeship training or have become a journeyman. Applicants must hold a high school diploma/GED or HiSET credential.  Applicants must be Massachusetts residents.

    How to Apply

    • Complete the online DPCS application (please choose Degree Pathway as your Program Type).
    • Submit the following materials to admissions@franklincummings.edu:
      • Official high School/GED or HiSET transcript
      • Official transcript(s) from any college(s) if applicable
      • Copy of Union Membership card
      • Copy of Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship Training/Letter from the Union

    Program Details

    We have designed the program for working adults.

    • Course Length – 7 weeks each
    • Program Length – 2 years
    • All courses will be delivered online, in the evenings.  A typical course meets two nights per week for three hours per night — e.g., M and W 6:00-9:00pm (schedules vary by term)
    • Participants take one course at a time so that you can master the material before beginning the next course.

    EN130 – College Composition I (3 credits)
    CM120 – Introduction to CAD (3 credits)

    Year I – Terms 4&5
    MA120 – College Algebra (3 credits)
    EN140 – College Composition II (3 credits)

    Year II – Term 1&2
    CM210 – Construction Management II (3 credits)
    MA115 – Plane and Solid Geometry (4 credits)

    Year II – Term 3&4
    CM260 – Project Scheduling (3 credits)
    CM220 – Sustainable Buildings (3 credits)

    Year II – Term 5&6
    PH212 – Physics I & Lab (4 credits)
    CM280 – Statics & Strength of Materials (4 credits)

    Year III – Term 1&2
    HU/SS – 2 Electives (6 credits) — If not taken in previous terms or through transfer credits

    Degree Total: 66 credits (20 transfer credits from apprenticeship program). Members could receive additional credits toward the degree requirements, depending on the training they have received.
