In accordance with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) permitting process, the college underwent a series of Roxbury community listening sessions in 2019-2021 to help inform and design community benefits offerings that would leverage institutional resources to meet neighborhood needs. During these two years, more than 50 in-person and virtual meetings and conversations took place with Roxbury residents, community based organizations, neighborhood associations, and members of the IAG (Impact Advisory Group) for the Nubian Square Campus.
The community benefits agreed to are:
- Monthly open houses for prospective students to be held at the Nubian Square Campus, once complete and occupied.
- Periodic Tech Fairs/Community Exploration workshops on the Nubian Square Campus, once complete and occupied.
- Robotics and engineering technology demonstrations by faculty and students. These Discovery Day sessions, including career options and academic pathways, will demystify the tech and trade programs we offer. Learn more about our current Discovery Days
- A free non-credit “career exploration” course, offered to all Roxbury residents to expose them to the tech and trade programs the college offers and to help those that may be undecided choose a major. Learn about early college Boot Camps and other opportunities to gain exposure to college
- Host virtual and in-person staff hours in partnership with Roxbury-based community organizations to share information on Franklin Cummings Tech’s application process and programs with members of the community. Learn more about ways to connect with the Admissions team
