Electrical Engineering Student Chosen for Leadership Program

June 21, 2023

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) accepted David Calixte into the IEEE Power & Energy Society Student Branch Chapter Leadership in Training program.

David Calixte

Calixte, a rising sophomore in Franklin Cummings Tech’s Electrical Engineering bachelor’s degree program, will receive the training at the 2023 Power & Energy Society General Meeting in Orlando, FL, in July. The training program includes the cost of airfare, hotel, meals, and transportation.

“This training will enable David to make the college’s IEEE Power & Energy student branch to be one of the best branches in the country,” said Dr. Lisa Shatz, Professor of Electrical Engineering. “This will encourage and inspire students in our ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering bachelor’s degree program to consider careers in electric power.”

IEEE Power & Energy Society’s mission is to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society. The IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting is the premier annual power and electrical engineering event, bringing together leading power and electrical engineers, key academics, and engineering students from all over the world.

Calixte said he was delighted to be chosen for the prestigious training program, which he said will give him the tools needed to get other students excited about electrical engineering and the power industry.

“As a new and proud member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society, I feel truly honored to have been chosen for this invaluable opportunity,” he said. “By harnessing their interest and enthusiasm, I hope to showcase the sheer beauty and limitless potential of this major.”
