Mental Health or Substance Use Crisis
A mental health crisis is any situation in which a person’s behaviors put them at risk for hurting themselves or others and/or prevents them from being able to care for themselves or function effectively in a community.
Massachusetts Emergency Services Program/Mobile Crisis Intervention: call 1-877-382-1609
- If you or a family member are experiencing a mental health or substance use disorder crisis, call the number above and enter your zip code. You will be connected to a clinician who will ask you some basic demographic and insurance information, as well as questions about your current situation. Then the clinician will help you determine the next steps so you can access the support you deserve. Available 24/7.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: call or text 988
- The Lifeline provides support for youth and adults who are in any kind of emotional crisis, including having thoughts of ending their life. When you call or text 988 you will be connected to a trained counselor at the crisis center nearest you. Available 24/7.

Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741
- When you text the Crisis Text Line you will be connected to a trained volunteer who can talk you through whatever you’re feeling no matter the time of day. Available 24/7.

Sexual Assault Support
Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) Hotline: call 800-841-8371
- BARCC offers free, confidential support services to survivors of sexual violence ages 12 and older, as well as their loved ones and friends, living in the Boston area. They work with survivors regardless of when the violence occurred. Available 24/7.
- You can also use their online chat feature between 9 AM-11 PM everyday.
National Sexual Assault Hotline: call 800-656-4673
- The National Sexual Assault Hotline provides free, confidential services to survivors of sexual violence. The trained responders can provide support, referrals to local support and resources, as well as information about medical concerns and laws in your area. Available 24/7.
- When you call this hotline, you will be prompted to enter your zip code and then transferred to a local affiliate organization.

Domestic and Dating Violence

- SafeLink is Massachusetts’ statewide toll-free domestic violence hotline. This service offers support to both survivors of domestic violence and those who have loved ones who are survivors. Available 24/7.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline: call 1-800-799-7233
- The National Domestic Violence Hotline connects you with highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education and referral services in over 200 languages. Available 24/7.

A Call for Change Helpline: call 877-898-3411
- The Call for Change Helpline is a free, anonymous, and confidential intimate partner abuse prevention helpline. It serves Massachusetts adults and teens who are at risk of harming their intimate partner or who have questions about being a safe partner. Responders are trained to treat all callers with respect, and to support their efforts to become or remain safe in their relationship. Available 365 days/year from 10 AM-10 PM.
LGBTQ+ Specific Support
The Trevor Project: call 1-866-488-7386
- The Trevor Project is a crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ+ identifying individuals aged 13-24. Available 24/7.
- You can also text “Trevor” to 1-202-304-1200 (available Monday-Friday from 3-10 PM) or use their online chat feature (available 7 days/week between 3-10 PM).
The Network/La Red: call 1-800-832-1901
- The Network/La Red hotline provides support, information, and safety planning to anyone in the LGBTQ+ community (as well as members of the BDSM/kink and polyamorous communities) who are being abused, or have been abused, by a partner. It is also open to friends and family. Available 24/7.
Veteran Specific Support
Veteran’s Crisis Line: call 1-800-273-8255 & Press 1
- Veterans and service members who are thinking about hurting themselves, having thoughts of suicide, or becoming self-destructive can connect with the Veteran’s Crisis Line for free, confidential support. You do not need to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to access this service. Available 24/7.
