Good health is a vital component of every student’s academic success and overall college experience. Health is more than the absence of illness or disease. It includes physical, mental/emotional, and social wellness. These three areas are linked and impact each other, so it’s important to cultivate health in each. Look below to find out more information on maintaining your health and wellness!
Wellness
At Franklin Cummings Tech, we know that outside circumstances can affect students’ academic performance– that’s why we have the Office of Student Wellness and Support. Through the Office, students can meet one-on-one with our licensed social worker, Emma Michalowski, to collaboratively identify challenges and devise a plan for success.
Student Wellness is here to support students with any issue outside the classroom that may be getting in the way of their academic success. Common reasons for seeking support are basic need insecurity (food, housing, etc.), transportation challenges, mental health/wellness concerns, and more.
On-Campus Resource
Don’t see the support you’re looking for listed here? Reach out to Emma in the Wellness Office (contact info below). If she isn’t able to help, she’ll help you find someone who can.
- Food pantry — Check out our pantry located in the Wellness Office at U121 for free light lunches and snacks, as well as toiletries.
- Emergency MBTA passes— If a student is unable to afford transportation to and from campus due to unforeseen circumstances (like an unexpected medical bill or car repair), they can access a limited number of passes so they don’t miss their classes.
- Student Emergency Fund— We know financial challenges can derail students’ academic progress. For students experiencing short-term, unanticipated, basic need emergencies that can’t be addressed through other resources, the college has an emergency fund to help students address these issues. Reach out to the Wellness Office to see if you might qualify.
- One-on-One Wellness Visits— Emma is available to meet with students individually to talk about challenges they are facing in their life, whether that be sleep challenges, family or relationship conflicts, managing anxiety, and more. In these visits, Emma can also talk to students about referrals to off-campus counselors.
Off-Campus Referrals
There are many programs in our communities that can provide support. Students can learn more about some of our most common referrals on the Student Wellness Resources page. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Reach out to the Wellness Office if you’d like help finding others.

Health
Physical health plays a major role in students overall well-being and quality of life. While the college does not have a health center on campus, we are lucky enough to be in the heart of a city with an abundance of excellent hospitals and health centers.
A few hospitals in the Boston area include: Boston Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Cambridge Health Alliance. You can also visit community health centers. Learn more and locate these centers through the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.
The information linked above is not affiliated with Franklin Cummings Tech. The college does not accept any responsibility for the reliability of the information provided regarding programs unaffiliated with the college. These resources are included here as an example of what is available through your community. It is the student’s responsibility to carefully evaluate all resources.

Health Insurance
In line with Massachusetts law, students who are not already enrolled in health insurance are provided with health insurance at the time of matriculation. The charge for this health insurance is reflected on the tuition bill.
If students already have insurance or are claimed as a dependent through another individual’s health plan, they have the option of waving their right to the student health plan.
The insurance waiver form is located at www.universityhealthplans.com/BFIT. Students who do not complete the waiver will be responsible for the cost of the student health plan, regardless of whether they have separate insurance.
If you have questions about the waiver, please contact the Student Accounts Office at studentaccounts@franklincummings.edu. For questions about the Student Health Insurance Plan or enrollment process, please contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1739.
