Renewable Energy and Clean Tech Career Day
April 28, 2023
Our third Renewable Energy and Clean Tech Career Day was a high-energy event that brought 74 high school students to the college to learn about careers in “clean tech” fields like wind and solar energy generation technology, electric vehicle technology, and smart building technology.
Funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Council (MassCEC), this fun and free event is designed to expose young people—particularly students from under-resourced communities—to pathways to good paying and rewarding careers in renewable energy fields.
Students from Boston Green Academy, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, and New Mission High School worked in groups to build small-scale, operational solar and wind energy generating devices.
They also heard about clean tech career opportunities from industry representatives, including Lauren Farnsworth, MassCEC Senior Program Manager for Offshore Wind, Gregory King, Managing Director TSK Energy Solutions LLC (on behalf of Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN)), Manjulika Das, Membership & Special Programs Manager at Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts, and Kelsey Perry, Community Liaison Coordinator for SouthCoast Wind.
Students were also able to feel what it’s like to climb atop a skyscraper-high wind turbine and make repairs, thanks to a virtual reality demonstration by Eagle Wu, Co-Founder & CEO of Vinci VR.
