BFIT Electrical Engineering Program Receives ABET Accreditation
August 27, 2020
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) announced today that its Electrical Engineering program has been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. With the accreditation from ABET, BFIT’s Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science degree becomes the most affordable program of its kind among all private Boston colleges.
“The accreditation from ABET is big news for the college and speaks volumes to the quality and strength of our Electrical Engineering program,” said Lisa Shatz, Professor and Chair of Electrical Engineering at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. “This is truly a culmination of the college’s efforts to bring an unparalleled Electrical Engineering program to the underserved students of Greater Boston, and to provide our employer partners with well trained, career ready talent. As the most affordable accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science program in all of Boston, we believe there is no better place for students to earn their Electrical Engineering degree.”
As the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology, ABET accreditation assures confidence that a collegiate program has met standards essential to prepare graduates to enter critical STEM fields in the global workforce. Graduates from an ABET-accredited program have a solid educational foundation and can lead the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
ABET’s voluntary peer-review process adds critical value to academic programs in technical disciplines where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance. With its ABET certification, BFIT joins 4,144 accredited programs at 812 colleges and universities in 32 countries. More information about ABET, its member societies, and the accreditation criteria used to evaluate programs can be found at www.abet.org.
Each year a number of students from BFIT’s Electrical Engineering program (members of its IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Chapter) lead Boston-area high school students through hands on/virtual tutorials and career readiness sessions conducted with electrical utilities providers such as Eversource and National Grid and other companies that service the electric grid such as Phoenix Electric, Electroswitch, ABB, and CE Power.
