2021 Commencement Speakers
April 26, 2021
BFIT is please to announce that energy industry leader Marcy L. Reed will serve as the keynote speaker for the college’s 2021 Virtual Commencement Ceremony.
Reed served as President of National Grid in Massachusetts and EVP for Energy Policy & Social Impact from 2011 through March 2021. She worked for National Grid and its predecessor companies for over three decades, holding roles in Finance, Corporate Affairs, and Customer Relations in Boston and London prior to rising to the helm of the business in Massachusetts.
She currently serves as an independent director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA, chairing its Audit Committee. She also serves on the board of Northeastern University, chairing its Audit Committee. She previously served as board chair of The Partnership, Inc., an organization working to build racially diverse leadership pipelines.
A longtime leader in the energy industry, she has offered policymakers practical legislative and regulatory solutions to address climate change, the integration of renewables into electric generation, and how to build the foundation of a new energy framework. She is a frequent speaker on topics of leadership, energy policy, innovation, and the evolving energy paradigm.
Reed earned her MS in Accounting from Northeastern University and her AB in Economics from Dartmouth.
Student Commencement Speakers
The college is also pleased to announce that Hanna Quigley and Jayvonte Odom have been selected as this year’s student commencement speakers. We are excited to expand our student speakers to two amazing representatives of the Class of 2021.
HANNA QUIGLEY
Program: Mechanical Engineering Technology (BS)
Hometown: Fresno, CA
Campus Involvements: Orientation Leader, WIT, Franklin Honors Society, Ambassadors, Campus Activity Board (and one semester with the Student Activity Board)
Hanna Quigley came to BFIT in the spring of 2018 from California and quickly became engaged in the BFIT community. She graduated with her associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 2019 and earned two awards at graduation: the Ralph Adams Mechanical Engineering Technology Award, and the Student Leadership Award. She returned the following fall to complete the bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
While at BFIT, she has been involved in the Franklin Honor Society, Women in Technology, Orientation, and served as an Ambassador in the first year of our Peer Mentoring program.
JAYVONTE ODOM
Program: Construction Management (AS)
Hometown: Roxbury, MA
Campus Involvements: Orientation Leader, Franklin Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, Student Activity Board
Jayvonte Odom joined the BFIT community in the fall of 2019 in the Construction Management program and hit the ground running. Determined to make a name for himself, he quickly got involved in the college as an Ambassador in our first year of the Peer Mentoring program, member of the Franklin Honor Society, and served as an Orientation leader after his first semester.
He has worked part-time while studying at BFIT, and that employment, by chance, connected him with an internship in his field at Turner Construction, which has led to full-time employment after graduation.
We are very excited to have both of these incredible students represent the class of 2021 and look forward to their commencement addresses in our virtual commencement video.
