Success Story
Through the Patient Access Workforce Initiative, three Boston-area hospitals are expanding their pool of eligible patient service representatives. In this learn-and-earn model, candidates identified by the hospitals take courses in digital literacy, healthcare professionalism, and medical office administration while they also complete paid on-site training with their respective hospital employers for the duration of the program.
Successful candidates receive a certificate of completion, career services benefits, and access to gainful employment opportunities. Evaluation metrics include homework, assessments, participation, attendance, and on-the-job performance. In our pilot program, we saw a completion rate of 92% and a job retention rate of 82%.
