Kimberly Huynh Wins National Scholarship

February 7, 2022

Congratulations to BFIT Opticianry student Kimberly Huynh for being selected from among 300 applicants from across the country to receive a scholarship from the RIZE Foundation. Students at over 100 US colleges applied for eight available awards, in four categories: Women in STEM, First Generation Students, Student Life, and Growing Fields. The winner from each category received $2500, and the runner-up from each category received $500.

Kimberly HuynhHuynh, a runner up in the First Generation Students category, is currently studying to become a licensed optician and will complete her Associate of Science in Opticianry degree at BFIT in August 2022. The Dorchester resident said she plans to continue to work at Parrelli Optical Shop in West Roxbury after graduation.

“I chose this route because it’s one of the most fulfilling jobs,” she said. “When patients see better and clearer with their new eyeglasses, it’s a wonderful feeling to know that I have made a small impact in their life.”

The mission of the RIZE Foundation is to provide students with scholarships that help them successfully turn a dream into a meaningful, skill-based degree and a rewarding career. Scholarships are available to students at any of the nearly 100 Lower Cost Models Consortium (LCMC) schools. This consortium of private colleges across the country—of which Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is a member—is dedicated to lowering the cost and increasing accessibility of higher education, and delivering new courses, programs and opportunities through RIZE Education.
