Prime Scholars Program Offers Automotive Career Training and Scholarships

January 30, 2019

Prime Motor Group has partnered with Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) to establish the Prime Scholars program, which helps the school’s students begin and advance careers as automotive technicians and provides a source of skilled and educated workers for New England-based Prime and its more than 30 auto dealerships.

In addition to offering $5,000 scholarships, the Prime Scholars program gives as many as 15 BFIT students the opportunity to apprentice part-time at any of the 32 dealerships across New England managed by Prime. Participants will rotate positions at dealerships to obtain a broad spectrum of valuable on-the-job skills which complement their studies.

During the on-the-job training rotations, executives with Westwood, Mass.-based Prime Automotive can assess the strengths and skills of the participating Prime Scholars, and recruit them for employment after they graduate.

“Prime Scholars creates a faster route to the middle class for our automotive students,” said BFIT President Anthony Benoit. “We are grateful to Prime Motor Group for supporting our students both while they are in school and as they start rewarding careers that can uplift themselves, their families and their communities.”

The Prime Scholars program also allows BFIT students to receive training with individual automakers so they can receive the certifications required by auto brands.

“At Prime Motor Group, we believe our commitment to people and community is our most powerful fuel,” said David Rosenberg, President and CEO of Prime Motor Group. “Finding skilled technicians can be extremely challenging, and this program not only provides valuable experience for students, it helps us develop our future workforce. Prime Scholars is a partnership in the truest sense because it delivers real value for all involved.”

Boston-based BFIT is a private, non-profit college that seeks to provide students, including those from traditionally underrepresented groups, with the technical education they need to obtain careers in high-demand fields. BFIT has established programs similar to Prime Scholars with more than 90 other local New England businesses.
