Kevin Hepner Named Chief Financial Officer

Kevin HepnerBenjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is very pleased to name Kevin Hepner, founder of the Nonprofit Financial Managers Group, as Chief Financial Officer/Dean of Finance & Administration.

“Kevin’s extensive financial and change management expertise will be invaluable as the college embarks on a number of ambitious initiatives, in particular the construction and relocation to our new campus in Roxbury,” said CEO Aisha Francis. “His commitment to the nonprofit sector and his experience helping organizations develop the organizational infrastructure to support their mission makes him the perfect choice for our institution at this pivotal time.”

Most recently the Chief Financial Officer of Roxbury Community College, Hepner is a certified public accountant by training. He moved to the nonprofit sector from public accounting to directly address socially impactful issues close to his heart. He founded the Nonprofit Financial Mangers Group, which is run by a steering committee of its members and provides a forum for discussion of the current issues facing non-profit financial professionals.

He has worked with over 40 nonprofits as a board member or advisor and has extensive experience managing boards as a senior staff person, and as a board chair, including serving as board President of a community health center for 10 years and overseeing the transition from its executive director of 35 years to new leadership. Other nonprofit leadership roles have been with United South End Settlements and Judge Baker Children’s Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate.

He is also an institution builder who helped start five nonprofits and one insurance company owned by its nonprofit policy holders where 100% of the profits of the company goes back to the nonprofit policy holders. He worked with a group of Harvard Medical School students to create a public health organization in Mali, Africa.

Hepner also is a long-time instructor at the Boston University School of Social Work. There, he was a founding faculty member of the Institute for Nonprofit Management & Leadership, where he shared his financial management expertise and best practices to students seeking to pursue leadership roles within the nonprofit arena.

Hepner is an active resident of the South End/Lower Roxbury community.
