Optician Licensure Disclosure

General Disclosures related to the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA)

States have varying approaches to regulating opticianry. It is important to become familiar with your own state’s regulations in order to determine whether a degree in Opticianry from Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology will help you meet your career goals.

As of July 2022, 20 states require a degree in order to be licensed as an optician. The college has determined that its Associate of Science degree in Opticianry meets the educational requirements for licensure in 16 of these states, and has not been able to determine the status for the remaining 4 states. The American Board of Opticianry maintains a listing of contact information for state opticianry licensing boards.  The college’s Associate of Science Degree in Opticianry is accredited by the Commission on Opticianry Accreditation.
